Famous Cities of the World : Dublin

Dublin is a very cosmopolitan city for food. It also can be quite expensive for the budget conscious traveller. Dublin is full of places to shop. With a car rental you can be sure to get to all of them. Dublin is located close the midpoint of east coast of Ireland, at the mouth of the River Liffey and at the centre of the Dublin Region. Nowadays, it’s the economic, administrative, educational and cultural centre for Ireland and its growing population is one of the fastest of any European capital city.

Dublin is the one of the European Union's huge success stories. Once a proud but poor city perched on the edge of Europe, Dublin is today bustling and booming. Dublin is one of the top tourist destinations in Europe and each year welcomes many thousands of tourists to its streets. In recent years many areas have been rejuvenated and renovated, historic buildings and landmarks have been exquisitely restored, many hotels have been built and the shopping scene is huge and there are many restaurants, clubs and bars to provide everything visitors want.

Dublin is surprisingly beautiful with its wonderful architecture, clean streets, and grand parks. The buildings are old, but not decrepit; sophisticated, but not pretentious It is also a thriving center for culture and is home to the great literary tradition of Shaw, Yeats, Joyce and Beckett.

Dublin is the perfect destination for a city break, a stag or hen weekend or as the starting point of a touring holiday around Ireland. Whether you visi Dublin as a business day trip, a long winter weekend away with friends, or a family holiday in the summer, you are sure to find plenty to see and do in and around Dublin. Dublin is the largest city and capital of Ireland, with approximately 1.2 million inhabitants. Dublin is Ireland's largest port and major exporter. It has also developed into the largest manufacturing city in Ireland, though the factories, aside from breweries and distilleries are engaged primarily in light manufactures.

Dublin is also a university city with many reputable institutions. Many of these have English language programmes where foreign students who do not have the required English language level to enter university can improve their English in order to gain university access. Dublin is one of the fortunate Irish cities to have a river running through its heart. The River Liffey not only provides pretty views, it helps with orientation for foreigners as well. Dublin is just waking up to the fact that they are no more a provincial town, but have become an important, cosmopolitan city of Europe. Old cobbled streets and houses that lean against each other wearily have given way to modern multi-plexes and an aluminum/glass culture has replaced brick and mortar!

Dublin is one of the best connected cities in Europe given how much it lies on the periphery of the continent. This is due in no small part to the fact that Ryanair operate a large proportion of their huge flight programme out of this city. Dublin is a small city on a world scale with a low-rise culture that refuses to dwarf its historical and architectural past. The main attraction of this intimate and friendly place is its people.
